White locks in the hair

In our lives, our hair repeatedly changes the volume, structure, color, and even its type. But why then, most of all worries us the graying? Probably because it is associated with old age, and when we find the traitorous strand in the mirror strikes us a sense of inevitability and anxiety. Therefore most of us dye our white hair and few are those who demonstrate it peacefully. Why is this happening and can we prevent it?

The color of our hair depends on the pigment melanin – the same that gives and the nice tan to our skin after sun exposure. And as you probably know, it is not the same in all people. In the blondes and the redheads prevails the pheomelanin, while in the brunettes the brown-black eumelanin. Of the amount of the pigment depends how bright will be the hue of our hair.

With the progress of the years the melanin production gradually decreases until one day appears the first streak of white. And that does not necessarily mean that we are getting old. In some women, this happens about the 20th anniversary or otherwise in the flourishing youth, in others after the 40s. The process depends on the activity of the enzyme tyrosinase, which stimulates the production of melanin.

Graying lies in us genetically and only to some extent depends on other factors. At what age occurred the first white locks in the hair of our parents, we can orient ourselves when it will happen to us. Also blond women turn white earlier than the brunettes because they have less melanin. However, they are favored by the fact that this process for a long time remains unnoticeable, while in the dark heads the white strand from a distance strikes the eye as it is in sharp contrast with the natural color of the hair. As a rule, it first appears at the temples and then in other parts of the scalp.

Faster and earlier than the planned for us by the nature, we can gray if we are exposed to severe stress. The reason for this is that our emotions (fear, anger, anxiety) are able to influence the metabolic processes in our body. When we are under stress our bodies produce neuropeptides that violate the production of melanin. In this sense, graying in a critical situation is possible.

Other factors, which to some extent may accelerate or delay the graying is our way of life and the everyday care for our hair. For example, the bleach in the dye affects the enzyme tyrosinase and thus leads to the premature appearance of white locks. Food rich in antioxidants and B vitamins do the opposite – slow down the graying. Therefore vegetarians who eat lots of fruits and vegetables to a much later age retain the natural color of their hair.

However, when the gray hair is a fact, we need to change and the care for our hair. It is better to avoid too red and dark paints. In the first case, the result will get too bright and unnatural, and in the second, only a week or two after coloring our white roots telltale will “shine”.

As for the type of dye, we should move on to those with permanent coverage. Without ammonia and friendly paints are effective only when the white hairs are very few. Of the henna we must even give up, because it does not penetrate into the hair shaft, but only gives a shade to our natural color.

Of course, the silvery hairs can also be beautiful. If your hair is healthy, the color homogeneous and without a yellow tint, they can give you a natural charm and nobility that can not be achieved with any paint.
